Here are the minimum standards to go by

SEG Meets Minimum Standards

Professionalism

1) Appearance
• Grooming SOP 02.09.09
• Uniforms SOP 03.01.03
a. must wear class D uniform
b. must have class C uniform at station

2) Attitude Towards EMS
• Applies the mission statement of the department in all aspects to the job performance
• Displays an active interest in the responsibilities of working in EMS as an aspect of their career
• Displays good affective domain in relations to public involvement, continuing education and community outreach
• When Tasked delivers EMS station Drills

3) Self Initiated Study
• Appropriately utilizes down time between calls to learn necessary skills and knowledge
• Asks preceptor questions that arise during self study
• Completes tour task book objectives without prompting

4) Acceptance of Feedback/Self Critique
• Seeks feedback from Preceptor
• Accepts feedback in positive manner
• Applies feedback to improve performance
• Able to articulate areas of deficiencies

5) Time Management
• In proper uniform according to appearance standard, gear on unit @ 0700, SOP 01.02.01 I.A.
• Unit should be checked with in allowed time per station policy
• Completes assigned tasks with in time parameter given

Safety

6) Safety
• Always utilizes appropriate PPE for the situation
• Always disposes of biohazards in appropriate manner
• Wear appropriate safety equipment (i.e. seatbelt, road vest, helmet)
• Constantly maintains situational scene safety
• Follows SOP for backing procedures
• Maintains PT schedule as per Fire Chief directive
• Places self and crew as top safety priority
• Constantly follows all safety SOP’s, Rules and Regs, GO’s

Communication

7) Interpersonal
• Build report with patient, family members and bystanders
• Demonstrates caring, compassion and understanding in interactions with public
• Accurately communicates all pertinent information between crew members using closed loop communication and good affective domain

8) Operational
• Uses clear concise, plain english during radio transmissions
• Give clear and concise report to receiving hospital in regards to patient information both when calling in report and at the bedside

9) Documentation
• Complete all relevant and required documentation (i.e. daily checks, med checks, M%, SCBA)
• Completes EPCR in timely and thorough manner
• Completes patient tracking on required days
• Completes exposure reports when directed
• Completes Fire RMS by end of shift


10) Communication Equipment
• Carries radio at all times when out of station
• Utilizes radio in appropriate manner for communication
• Use proper terminology and language on radio
• Carries secondary communication device (personal or unit cell phone)
• Properly uses MDT when riding as the OIC

11) Area Familiarity
* Utilizes GPS or Street books when needed
• Knows closes hospitals and capabilities
* Demonstrates knowledge of main and secondary route to hospital
* Participates in District/Battalion familiarization exercises

12a) Crew Resource Management (Onscene Management Patient Care)
• Directs crew in management of patient
• Uses Closed Loop Communication
• Recognizes need for additional resources when appropriate

12b ) Crew Resource Management (Onscene Management Non- Patient Care)
• Demonstrates knowledge of assigned role (OIC, Driver, Engine Medic)
• Demonstrates knowledge of other personnel assigned roles
• Recognize need for additional resources to mitigate circumstances including outside agencies (i.e. gas company for gas leak)

13) Non-Diagnostic Equipment Use
• Demonstrates proficient knowledge and use of patient packaging and moving devices
• Demonstrates proficiency in splinting, bleeding control, Lucus device, CPR and other BLS skills
• demonstrates proficiency in IV/IO insertion, Med administration, Advanced Airway and other ALS skills

Patient Assessment

14) History Taking
• Uses SAMPLE/OPQRST and other pneumonic in protocol
• Asks appropriate follow up questions
• Utilizes appraise sources of information ( i.e.. file of life, family, med alert bracelet)

15) Physical Assessment
• Obtains General Impression/ABC’s
• Checks PMS/Skin Color Temp
• Listens to initial lung sounds
• Uses crew resource management to complete physical assessment

16) Diagnostic Equipment
• Uses manual equipment when appropriate (i.e. initial or confirming mechanical BP)
• Uses mechanical or automated equipment when appropriate
• Correctly places EKG leads and interpret EKG/12EKG
• Correctly uses and interprets EtCo2, SpO2 when needed
• Correctly uses Glucometer/Thermometer/ or other diagnostic equipment

17) Differential Diagnosis
• Determines Sick or Not Sick
• Develops accurate treatment plan based on patient condition
• Initiates treatment plan in timely manner based on patient condition
• Recognizes changes in patient condition in timely manner

21) FRD Manuals from EMS lead Perspective
• Constantly demonstrates responsibility of Medic Lead position in regards to all FRD manuals (i.e. communications, rehab, structure fires, MCI, Joint Action Taskbook)
• Applies SOP’s, Rules and Reg’s, and GO’s as unit officer of the medic
